Is A Lack Of Good Posture Ruining Your Exercise Routine?

by Katherine Crawford

Poor posture will wear reduce the effectiveness of your workouts because you won't be able to do as much exercise. After all, you can go full speed with a car that is out of alignment.

To make matters worse, being out of alignment accelerates the degeneration of your joints.

So, without further ado, here is how to make sure bad posture doesn't ruin your body when exercising:

1. Stretch your chest often: If you have a desk job like the majority of the population you probably have a tight chest. And a tight chest will make it very hard for your body to stay aligned. Even worse, it will compromise the health of your rotator cuff.

2. Strengthen your upper back: As your chest gets tighter and your shoulders round forward, your upper back becomes lengthened and weakened. Thus, the best strategy here is to stretch your chest out while simultaneously strengthening your upper back.

3. Don't sit down all day: Doing this will accelerate the degeneration of your posture via many different mechanisms. Not only will your shoulder begin to slouch forward, but the discs in your lower back will also degenerate at a faster rate.

4. Buy a solid ergonomic chair: A good ergonomic chair will ensure that your body remains aligned the way it's supposed to be. And although they are expensive, they are worth every penny. After all, you can't buy a new lower back once it degenerates.

5. Don't just stretch: There are many other modalities that are more effective than traditional stretching. Contract/relax stretching, for instance, allows you to reach new ranges of motion that would otherwise be unattainable with regular stretching.

6. See a specialist: Your best bet here is to see a physical therapist. They will do a great job at keeping your body in balance with a wide variety of modalities that you can't do on your own. One such modality is electrical stimulation.

A body that is out of alignment is a recipe for disaster. For the best health possible you need to fix your postural imbalances today!
